San Diego firefighters rescue unconscious lady charged with DUI, California drunk driving checkpoints this weekend and next

A lady suspected of a San Diego DUI / drunk driving is hospitalized with substantial injuries that she suffered when her vehicle crashed not too far from the San Diego county superior court.

The woman was driving westbound in the 500 block of Eucalyptus Avenue around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when she allegedly failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the roadway, according to San Diego DUI criminal defense lawyers. The vehicle sideswiped three trees and a telephone pole before coming to rest against the back fence at Lincoln Middle School. The woman was found trapped and unconscious behind the wheel. Luckily, firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the woman, then paramedics flew her to the hospital.

Truckee Police, California Highway Patrol, and Grass Valley Police are ramping up their efforts for the summer tourist season. The planned checkpoint will screen drivers for driving under the influence and having valid drivers licenses, according to a press release. Truckee Police will also run a “Click it or Ticket” campaign between May 18 and 31 aggressively enforcing seatbelt laws.

Officers from the Norco Office of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in Norco on May 23, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. joining the efforts of Avoid the 30 DUI Task Force officers throughout the county combining resources. Law Enforcement is sending a unified message this Memorial Day weekend to holiday travelers, college graduates and communities enjoying local festivities that drunk driving won’t be tolerated. If you drive drunk, they will be looking for you. If you’re over the limit, you will be arrested.

This California DUI checkpoint is part of the City of Norco’s effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-involved collisions and in collisions with unlicensed drivers. Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. The San Diego DUI checkpoint took place between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM on Saturday.

501 vehicles were trapped & passed through the San Diego Drunk Driving checkpoint with 373 vehicles inspected: 4 drivers were arrested for San Diego DUI - driving under the influence of alcohol.

A 5th driver was arrested for displaying false evidence of vehicle registration with intent to defraud (forged tab sticker on license plate), a felony. Additionally, County Probation officers conducting a home check on an individual on probation for vehicular manslaughter at his home prior to the checkpoint operation, arrested the subject for violating his probation after he was determined to be drinking alcohol.

15 additional Field Sobriety evaluations were conducted on drivers suspected of San Diego DUI - driving under the influcence of alcohol.

Seventeen (17) vehicles were stored and cited due to violations including driving with a suspended license, unlicensed drivers, or as a result of arrest.

San Diego's multi - police crackdown on DUI offenders for outstanding California DUI warrants

San Diego DUI lawyers report local police took 21 people into custody in South Bay neighborhoods Thursday as part of a multi-agency crackdown on DUI offenders with outstanding warrants for their arrest. The enforcement effort, funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, was conducted by personnel with the California Highway Patrol and the Chula Vista, Coronado, National City and San Diego police departments. "This was considered a successful operation, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated," NCPD Agent Rusty Rea said.
