San Diego Police Department, San Diego California sheriff’s Department, National City Police Department, Chula Vista Police Department, Escondido Police Department, La Mesa Police Department, San Diego State University Police Department, and Univeristy of California San Diego Police Department, were patrolling the California DUI Enforcement Patrol to crackdown on drunk driving in an effort to lower deaths and injuries in and around the Del Mar Race Track on the Opening Day of the racing season.
The AVOID Agencies had 21 deputies and officers who conduct 111 traffic stops, where 25 people were evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and ten people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Three drivers were cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license and one driver was cited for driving without a driver’s license. 45 traffic citations were issued and ten vehicles impounded.
The “Zero Tolerance” DUI Saturation Patrol targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver before their celebrations begins.
