A big-wave surfer who was allegedly speeding and drunk when he crashed a car in Del Mar last year, killing his 24-year-old passenger, has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI, San Diego DUI criminal attorneys heard Monday.
A $500,000 arrest warrant has been issued for Milton Willis in connection with the June 6 crash that killed Bradley Dillahunty of Laguna Niguel, said the San Diego County district attorney’s office. Not much courtesy there.
Willis, a longtime Solana Beach resident in his early 50s, was driving a Toyota sedan on Coast Boulevard in Del Mar about 1:40 a.m. when the fatal crash occurred, San Diego DUI defense lawyers have been told.
Witnesses told San Diego DUI investigators that they saw the Toyota traveling more than 65 mph in a 25-mph zone.
The sedan allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at 20th Street, bottoming out in a dip in the intersection and causing Willis to lose control of the vehicle, hitting several parked cars and a palm tree.
Dillahunty was killed by the impact, San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys are told.
