A San Diego DUI suspect allegedly tried to drown a police dog that caught up with him Saturday in the lagoon he was hiding in before his arrest, San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys heard.

At 8:20 p.m., an officer allegedly saw Lavar Toosweet McKiernan, driving without headlights, nearly hit three parked cars in the area of Carlsbad Boulevard and State Street, according to the reports provided San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys .

McKiernan allegedly hit the gas when the officer tried to pull him over, eventually rear-ending a 44-year-old motorist and hitting a telephone pole, San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys .

McKiernan’s car allegedly wouldn’t drive after the crashes, so he fled on foot to a lagoon west of Carlsbad Boulevard and hid in water about 4 feet deep, per the information provided to San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys
Carlsbad police were assisted by a San Diego police helicopter and an Oceanside police dog, which tracked McKiernan to the lagoon, San Diego DUI criminal defense attorneys .
