Local Lawyers today were told the results of this weekend’s DUI Checkpoints in San Diego County.

San Marcos

December 17, 2011 saw DUI deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station conduct a DUI/ Driver License checkpoint at 125 S. Rancho Santa Fe Road, in the city of San Marcos. Approximately 2271 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 582 of those drivers contacted. The results included five field sobriety evaluations which were conducted on drivers suspected of driving under the influcence of alcohol or drugs and four arrests were made for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, two arrests were for driving on a suspended license. Additionally, two of the arrests also included charges for driving while on probation for driving under the influence. Six vehicles were stored and cited due to violations including driving with a suspended license, or as a result of arrest. 17 citations were issued for various violations including driving without a license (12), and driving on a suspended driver’s license (3).

Santee

San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a Saturday night 12/17/11 DUI checkpoint beginning at 8 pm in the city of Santee under a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety. They were secret about their drunk driving roadblock location.

The following are the checkpoint results.

Vista

San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Vista Station, conducted a Drunk Driving / License checkpoint at 1450 E. Vista Way, in the City of Vista.

The checkpoint took place between 7:30 PM and 2:00 AM on Friday evening. Approximatley 1,128 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 677 of those drivers contacted. The results included the following: 2 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 4 drivers were arrested for driving on a suspended license status. All were booked into Vista Detention Facility. 1 driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

7 Field Sobriety evaluations were conducted on drivers suspected of driving under the influcence of alcohol. 18 vehicles were stored due to violations including driving with a suspended license, unlicensed drivers, or as a result of arrest.19 citations were issued for various violations including: Unlicensed 12, Suspended driver’s license 3.

Lemon Grove

On the night of 12-16-2011, between the hours of 8:00 PM and 1:30 AM, deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Lemon Grove Station conducted a DUI sobriety and driver license checkpoint near the 7900 block of Broadway. The checkpoint was staffed by approximately 20 DUI trained Sheriff deputies. The purpose of the checkpoint was to remove impaired and/or unlicensed drivers from the roadway, public education and deterrence thereby increasing the safety of all drivers and allowing for a safer driving environment. The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the State Office of Traffic Safety.
A total of 646 vehicle drivers were contacted during the checkpoint.

The operation resulted in two (2) DUI arrest. Forty three (43) vehicles were directed into the secondary inspection area for further evaluation. Twenty four (24) citations were issued for suspended/revoked or no driver’s licenses and ten (10) vehicles were impounded during the operation.
