WINTER HOLIDAY AVOID San Diego DUI CAMPAIGN – UPDATE

San Diego DUI Arrests Down, lawyers are told. Just One Suspected San Diego DUI Related Fatality Reported, attorneys say.

The Winter Holiday Anti-San Diego DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of San Diego DUI arrests being made during local traffic enforcement details and special Avoid the 14 San Diego DUI deployments in San Diego County.
From 12:01 AM Friday December 17, 2010 through Midnight Wednesday, December 27, 2010 San Diego drunk driving officers representing 14 county law enforcement agencies have arrested and booked into custody 444 individuals for San Diego DUI alcohol and/or drugs. In 2009, 544 DUI arrests and bookings occurred during the same 11 day time period.
As part of the Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown members from multiple law enforcement agencies in San Diego County conducted a San Diego DUI warrant sweep operation on December 24, 2010. An attempt was made to serve 37 recently issued arrest warrant on San Diego DUI offenders. Of those, four (4) suspects were contacted and the warrants cleared.
Although San Diego DUI arrests are down considerably from last year there has tragically still been one death attributed to a drunk driver thus far this holiday season in San Diego County!
Over the next few days there will be San Diego DUI checkpoints, Multi-Agency Task Force Operations and Saturation Patrols conducted by the law enforcement agencies in the San Diego County Avoid the 14. All of the details will be focused on making the roads safer for all motorists during the holiday travel by removing San Diego DUI offenders from the equation.
San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore reminds all motorists, “If you are going to drink, please have a safe ride arranged before the end of the night.” He continued, “If you make the bad choice to drink and drive, you will be caught and taken to jail by one of the law enforcement agencies in the county.
All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting San Diego DUI drivers during their normal shifts. San Diego Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911. San Diego DUI arrest data collection will continue through New Year’s Weekend, midnight Sunday, January 2, 2011.
